STRESS BUSTER MIND SERIES
STRESS AROUND THE HOME:
There are tons of issues that can be covered under this topic and we will constantly be adding to this category.
HOME IMPROVEMENTS vs HOME DECORATING:
So whats the difference?
Well when it comes to sprucing up the home men think of it as home improvement-
women think of it as home decorating.
So what do we have?
A difference of opinion - and the beginning of a stress issue. Who wants what? And Who is right?
There is probably one point all parties agree on and that is a tight budget
Where do you start
Step 1 Is to determine how much money is available for any type of home project.
Step 2 Each of you pick out the room or area that you feel is in need of a overhaul and is most important to you.
Step 3: Each of you draft up plans of what you would like to do to that room
Step 4; Determine if you are going to do this project yourself or are going to hire contractors to do it for you.
STEP 5: For the Men
If you are contracting out - the you will need some quotes based on your draft plan
Here is a starting point for you
STEP 5: FOR THE LADIES
You are most likely leaning towards the decor of a room
so that involves alot more cost comparing
To start with don't worry about the colors, concentrate on the style
If you are a handyman and going to tackle this yourself then this may be of help to you
HOME IMPROVEMENTS
AT ITS BEST
EASY ON THE BUDGET
PRODUCTS & HOW TOS
STEP 6- DECISION MAKING TIME
Now you both have an idea of what you want and what its going to cost.
Its decision making time! And the winner is...
A) decides whose plan fits closest to the budget
B) determine if there is one that should take priority -
for example if the walls are ready to fall down, then the home improvement would be the wisest choice,
but if the structure is ok but the furniture is falling apart then decorating should be the main choice.
STEP 7: EVERYBODYS HAPPY!
So a decision has been reached - now its time to work together.
Take you initial draft that you have been working from, and begin to draft a plan together. Each of you pick out the important issues to you regarding this project and then be prepared to compromise on the rest.
For example - if you are renovating the kitchen - perhaps the cupboards are most important to you - but for your husband the important issue is what type of wood is going to be used.
Here is a starting point for you without the hassle of salespeople standing over your shoulder
A HAPPY ENDING...
So now take a look at whats happened here...
-the financial stress has been eliminated because you planned your project to fit into your budget
-you relieved the stress over the power struggle of whose plans were most important
-the stress of trying to determine where to start is gone
-by compromising you have said goodbye to the stress that comes from frustration.
SO HAPPY RENOVATING ....OR....DECORATING!
